Why I'm running...

As I meet friends, old and new, they ask me why I am running for City Council; I love it when they do that!

After my faith and my family, this city, Alpharetta, has always been in me and I want Alpharetta to thrive and provide for future generations what it did for me!

For Alpharetta to thrive going future, we must to work together every day to improve our city and not be just be satisfied.

I'd be honored to earn your support and vote - I look forward to working with you to make our city better every day.

Your friend, in your service,

Donna Shaw Murphy

Public Safety

Providing for the public's safety is an absolute priority for cities and Alpharetta is blessed with a great group of individuals making up our Police, Fire, E-911, EMS and affiliated services. When elected I will always place a priority on supporting these individuals because they are always there for us!

My first take action will be immediately advocate to add at least 4 additional patrol officers to our police department so new growth is covered without forcing overtime or leaving neighborhood zones uncovered.

Lower Taxes

Alpharetta taxpayers haven't seen a lower property rate in over 10 years (See Alpharetta 2021 Comprehensive Financial Report, page 110).  When elected I will work with city staff, the mayor and fellow councilmembers to identify opportunities for implementing efficiencies to actually lower the rate.

For over a decade I have represented hundreds of families and negotiated contracts allowing them to buy homes in Alpharetta - I will put those same skills to work for those families at City Hall to keep their taxes low!

Financial Management and Responsibility

Alpharetta taxpayers money must not be used as political currency by elected Councilmembers as it has been recently. When elected I will ensure citywide needs are placed above politically driven desires when developing general fund budgets and bond project list. It's your money and I will always put Alpharetta citizens, all of them, first when doing our budget.

Transportation

Alpharetta has seen significant growth in the past decade and our citizens have experienced great hardship during the pandemic; economic uncertainty will be around for years.  For too long some on Council have placed our community needs below the political wishes. When elected I will focus on and promote transportation options that are resident centered and enable movement within Alpharetta. Your opinion matters to me!

Parks & Recreation

Alpharetta has an award winning Parks and Recreation Department from Wacky World to the Webb Zone, from the Big Creek Greenway to the Alpha Loop, and everywhere in between delivering a wide variety of active and passive programs for residents. When elected I will ensure your tax dollars are used on these facilities and the programs used by and important to Alpharetta citizens.

Zoning & Development

Going back the 1990s Alpharetta has been a popular place to live, work, play, and thrive. Due that popularity many developments have been requested and most approved in our city.

When elected I will always keep current Alpharetta citizens front and center and at the table when hearing requests in the form of zonings. Listening to you, the residents, will always be my first priority.
